25 "Friends of Forest" volunteers get id card in World Elephants day celebrations

There are only four lakh elephants left in the wild all over the world out of which 40,000 are in Indian forests including 2,500 in Western Ghats and its fringe areas said Ramasubramaniam, District Forest Officer.



Speaking at the World Elephants Day celebrations the DFO said Under Friends of Forest Scheme ID Cards have been distributed to 25 Wild Life Volunteers, which would help mitigate man-animal conflict in the region.

Added to dedicated help line being introduced to prevent man-animal conflict as farmers can call up 180042545456 to get help of task force to drive back elephants into the forest he said and added that medical insurance cover of Rs.1 lakh is given to 147 Anti-Poaching watcher in the district. He said.

Hundreds of school and college students took out World Elephants Day rally to drive home the importance of saving Elephants.



Torches and equipments to capture snakes were distributed to farmers on the occasion.
